Collection: Margherita Otto, Monforte d'Alba

Alan Manley, a native of New York, first visited the Piemonte region of Italy and was instantly captivated. After decades of working alongside some of the top producers in the area, including Maria Teresa Mascarello, Luciano Sandrone, and Cavallotto, he finally had the opportunity to secure a lease of exceptional vineyards to launch his own winery, Azienda Agricola Margherita Otto.
A meticulous individual with an unwavering attention to detail, Manley produces only two wines commercially: a Barolo Classico and a Langhe Nebbiolo. While the Langhe Nebbiolo is primarily crafted from purchased fruit, Manley has chosen to sell the fruit from his Barbaresco vineyards to local co-ops, allowing him to focus intently on his Barolo. Inspired by the elegant style of Maria Teresa Mascarello's Barolo Classico, Manley's 2020 Barolo is a blend of fruit from four distinctive vineyard sites across three Barolo communes:
- Barolo Commune:
1.1 Vignane MGA: A 1.6 hectare southwest-facing parcel between 240-280 meters in altitude, with alternating layers of sand and lighter clays that lend elegance and harmony to the fruit.
1.2 Coste di Rose MGA: A 1 hectare steep, east-southeast facing slope with a high percentage of sand, producing grapes between 250 and 290 meters in altitude. - Serralunga Commune:
A 0.2 hectare site bordering one of the historic crus of the village, situated between 300 and 320 meters with clay and sand soils, providing structure and tannin to the blend. - Monforte Commune:
A 0.5 hectare east-facing site near the Monforte cemetery, between 470-500 meters in altitude, with heavy clay and moderate sand content, contributing acidity and structure to the final wine.
