Collection: Valentini, Pescara
Valentini's winemaking lineage dates back to the 1600s, though the estate only began bottling its own wines in 1992 under the guidance of Eduardo Valentini. Despite selling off over 90% of its grapes to local co-ops, Valentini's wines are highly sought after for their exceptional quality and the family's renowned camera-shy nature.
Nestled between the imposing Gran Sasso mountains and the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea, the Abruzzo region is a land of agricultural abundance. Grazing pastures dot the countryside, giving rise to the local Pecorino grape, traditionally favored by the region's shepherd communities. Abruzzo's wineries are often integrated farms, producing a diverse array of agricultural products alongside their celebrated wines.
According to revered wine expert Ian D'Agata, the Lorento Aprutini is considered one of the grand crus of these Abruzzese grapes, in contrast to the DOCG-crowned region of Teramo. In this rich, agricultural landscape, Valentini stands out as a benchmark producer. Their textured, smoky Trebbiano exhibits exotic fruit notes, while their Montepulciano-based reds showcase ripe, concentrated flavors that rival the renowned Brunellos of Tuscany.
