The 2019 Barolo is gorgeous. Dark, ample and super-expressive, the 2019 caresses the palate with generous fruit and fine balance. All the elements are so well put together. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, rose petal and spice are nicely amplified in this striking entry-level offering from the Rinaldi family. As is often the case, the straight Barolo punches above its weight.

Francesco Rinaldi is one of the few producers of classically built wines that still remains somewhat under the radar. The wines can be a bit burly in the early going, but they come together very nicely with a few years of bottle age. Although the single vineyard Barolos get most of the attention here, I often find the straight Barolo to be one of the best wines in its peer group, as it is again in 2019. The Dolcetto remains the star among the house's entry-level offerings.

Francesco Rinaldi, Barolo
Nestled in the heart of the Barolo commune, Francesco Rinaldi is now proudly managed by fifth-generation sisters Piera and Paola Rinaldi, solidifying its status among the region's most celebrated producers. Antonia Galloni notes the remarkable transformation of the estate's wines, which were once harsh and austere but now exhibit beautiful precision and exceptional harmony—ready to enjoy without decades of aging. The estate offers a full suite of Piemontese bottlings, including Barolo sourced from La Morra, Barolo, and Castiglione Falletto, as well as a unique Barbaresco vinified in Barolo, a rare exception granted to only a few historic cellars. Their Brunate and Cannubi selections, sourced from both sides of these renowned vineyards, further showcase the family's commitment to quality and tradition in every bottle.
