The 2019 Barolo Brunate is a brooding, imposing wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and mocha saturate the palate. This big, old-school Barolo delivers tons of impact. Readers will tind a somber, stark Barolo tull of sepia-toned Brunate intensity.

Francesco Rinaldi is one of the few producers of classically built wines that still remains somewhat under the radar. The wines can be a bit burly in the early going, but they come together very nicely with a few years of bottle age. Although the single vineyard Barolos get most of the attention here, lotten find the straight Barolo to be one of the best wines in its peer group, as it is again in 2019. The Dolcetto remains the star among the house's entry-level offerings.
