Gabrio Bini (Azienda Agricola Serragghia) crafts radical, low-intervention wines on the windswept volcanic island of Pantelleria. Working with ancient ungrafted vines and biodynamic farming, Gabrio ferments his wines in Spanish terracotta dolia buried directly in the island's volcanic soil, with no added sulfur or temperature control.
Fanino 2023 is an extraordinary, vibrant co-ferment of native red Pignatello (Garridda) and white Catarratto/Zibibbo grapes. Macerated for three months on skins in buried amphorae, it blurs the lines between rosé, light red, and skin-contact orange wine with luminous clarity.
Tasting Profile: Glowing garnet-coral hue. Bursting with aromas of wild pomegranate, blood orange, crushed cranberries, dried oregano, and volcanic ash. Light-to-medium bodied with crunchy berry acidity, fine-grained tactile tannins, and an addictive sea-salt minerality that lingers through a dry, refreshing finish.
Serve chilled (10–12°C). Brilliant alongside roasted lamb chops, grilled sardine skewers, charcuterie, or spiced Mediterranean vegetables.
