I Vitari tells the story of heroic viticulture in Valtellina, where Davide Bettini tends a small 5-hectare vineyard in the Grumello subzone, frazione Ponchiera, at 510 meters above sea level. His father manages the vines using integrated agriculture principles with minimal intervention, while Davide controls every decision during harvest and in the cellar.

The estate cultivates Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) using the Guyot training system, respecting traditional alpine winemaking methods. Though the winery is young, the old Nebbiolo vines draw deep character from the volcanic and calcareous soils that define this mountain terroir.

Tasting Profile: The wine reveals the profound imprint of its terroir—volcanic stone and limestone minerality absorbed by ancient vines and expressed in every glass. Expect classic alpine Nebbiolo structure with distinctive mineral backbone and mountain freshness.

For collectors seeking authentic expressions of Valtellina's heroic viticulture and terroir-driven alpine Nebbiolo.

I Vitari, Valtellina

A defiant voice in Valtellina, I Vitari reimagines alpine Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) through an uncompromisingly modern lens. Rejecting DOC/DOCG conventions, they craft vibrant, low-intervention wines from steep granite terraces—never producing traditional Sforzato. Their architectural manifesto mirrors this philosophy: a revolutionary underground cantina in Ponchiera, buried beneath vineyards with a panoramic terrace celebrating Alpine terroir through both wine and landscape.

Oenologist Giuseppe Gorelli (renowned for his elegant Sangiovese) brings precision to their Chiavennasca—translucent, mineral, and defiantly drinkable. More than a winery, I Vitari is an immersive dialogue between radical winemaking and Alpine grandeur.
