The Vitari family's story in Valtellina is one of heroic viticulture. In the Grumello subzone, at 510 meters above sea level in the Ponchiera hamlet, young winemaker Davide Bettini tends a small 5-hectare estate planted with Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) vines trained in guyot. His father manages the vineyards using integrated agriculture with minimal intervention, while Davide controls all harvest and cellar decisions.

Tasting Profile: Though the estate is very young, the first vintages reveal the profound imprint of this Alpine terroir. Old Nebbiolo vines draw deep from the volcanic and calcareous stone, delivering mineral-driven wines with distinctive notes of volcanic rock and limestone that speak to Valtellina's unique mountain character.

For lovers of Alpine Nebbiolo and terroir-expressive mountain wines.

I Vitari, Valtellina

A defiant voice in Valtellina, I Vitari reimagines alpine Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) through an uncompromisingly modern lens. Rejecting DOC/DOCG conventions, they craft vibrant, low-intervention wines from steep granite terraces—never producing traditional Sforzato. Their architectural manifesto mirrors this philosophy: a revolutionary underground cantina in Ponchiera, buried beneath vineyards with a panoramic terrace celebrating Alpine terroir through both wine and landscape.

Oenologist Giuseppe Gorelli (renowned for his elegant Sangiovese) brings precision to their Chiavennasca—translucent, mineral, and defiantly drinkable. More than a winery, I Vitari is an immersive dialogue between radical winemaking and Alpine grandeur.
