Nebbiolo 101 — five expressions of Piedmont's great grape, from five small family growers. The same variety, five different hands: a full tasting flight through what Nebbiolo can be, from bright and fresh to savoury and structured.

  • Margherita Otto Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 (Monforte d'Alba) — bright rose petal, red cherry and a clean, chalky finish. The classic first page of the Nebbiolo textbook.
  • Vaira Aurelj Fuori Zona "FZ" 2022 (Vergne, Barolo) — Barolo-vineyard fruit, declassified. Tar, dried herbs and dark cherry: Barolo character, Langhe pricing.
  • San Barnaba Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 (Serralunga d'Alba) — young-vintage energy: cranberry, orange peel and a fine, upright tannic spine.
  • Vaira Aurelj Controcorrente 2023 (Vergne, Barolo) — Nebbiolo swum against the current: longer maceration, more savoury depth, tobacco and dark plum.
  • Rosanna Sandri Langhe Nebbiolo "Botero" 2023 (Treiso) — generous and round, soft cherry and sweet spice; the gentlest pour of the flight.

5 × 750ml. Served as a vertical philosophy: open them side by side, young to structured.

Vaira Aurelj, Vergne

Brothers Francesco and Giacomo are rewriting Barolo's rules at their Vergne estate. With biodynamic vineyards and minimalist winemaking, they craft wines that buzz with energy. Their "FZ" (Fuori Zona) Nebbiolo challenges expectations, while the rare Controcorrente – made from Nebbiolo rosé – is pure liquid rebellion. The 2020 Barolo Fossati (their first vintage!) already shows cult-worthy depth. For drinkers who crave authenticity with a twist, Vaira Aurelj delivers. Low-intervention, high-expression wines from Barolo's wild west.
