The Rosanna Sandri estate in Treiso, Piedmont, has been a family labor of love since 1950 when Rosanna's parents Mario and Teresina first planted their vineyards. Today, brothers Roberto and Mauro Prandi honor their mother's legacy, blending generations of hands-on vineyard wisdom with formal enological training from Alba Enological School. This Barbaresco Rizzi comes from the prized Vigneto Rizzi cru within Treiso, where 25-year-old Nebbiolo vines thrive on white marls, clay and sand at 450m altitude with ideal east-south-east exposure.
Traditional Winemaking with Minimal Intervention
The family's commitment to biodiversity and sustainability shines through every step. Grapes are hand-tended with double thinning throughout the growing season, yielding no more than 1kg of fruit per vine. After crushing, the wine ferments with native yeasts in large oak tanks, followed by an extended 40-45 day maceration to extract refined tannins and complex aromatics. The wine then rests 18-24 months in large oak barrels, developing elegance and structure. Final pH of 3.6 and acidity of 5.9 ensure beautiful balance and aging potential.
Tasting Profile: Classic Barbaresco Elegance
This limited-production Barbaresco (just 1,000 bottles) showcases the hallmark characteristics of Nebbiolo from Treiso—refined tannins, vibrant red fruit, floral notes of rose and violet, with earthy undertones and a long, persistent finish. The extended maceration and patient barrel aging create a wine of remarkable depth and finesse, ready to enjoy now or cellar for years to come.
For collectors and enthusiasts seeking authentic, terroir-driven Barbaresco from a family estate that honors tradition while embracing sustainable viticulture.
