In the heart of Treiso, Piedmont, Rosanna Sandri is the matriarch of a family vineyard dating back to 1950, when her parents Mario and Teresina first planted their vines. Today, her sons Roberto and Mauro—the first generation to attend Alba Enological School—blend generations of hands-on vineyard wisdom with modern enological knowledge, creating wines that honor tradition while embracing sustainability and biodiversity.

Winemaking: Crushed and fermented in 25hL concrete and wood tanks with a 25-day maceration using submerged cap technique. Fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats without temperature control, the wine is only racked for bottling. Aged in concrete and oak barrels for 11 months prior to bottling, then aged an additional year in bottle at the winery before release.

Tasting Profile: This Langhe Freisa from the Avolieri vineyard showcases vibrant red fruit character with floral aromatics and lively acidity. The extended maceration and natural fermentation create a wine with depth and structure, while the concrete and oak aging adds complexity without overwhelming the grape's inherent freshness and elegance.

Rosanna Sandri, Treiso, Barbaresco

In Piedmont’s understated Treiso hills, the Sandri family has quietly perfected their craft since the 1950s—while neighboring Barolo grapes command €5/kg, Barbaresco remains overlooked at just €3.5. Yet Rosanna, Franco, and sons Mauro and Roberto defy convention.

With devotion to organic farming (no herbicides, wild yeasts, concrete fermentation), they nurture 6 hectares into profound Nebbiolo, vibrant Freisa, and elegant Arneis. “Wine is passion, not product,” they insist—a philosophy that weaves tradition into every bottle.
