Vaira Aurelj is a small, highly acclaimed family producer in La Morra, crafting profound and authentic Barolo through traditional, low-intervention methods that highlight single-vineyard terroir clarity.

Barolo "Fossati" 2021 originates from the historic Fossati cru at 480 meters elevation, characterized by southeast exposure and calcareous clay soils. Hand-harvested grapes undergo whole-berry (acino intero) fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats, followed by 18 months of patient maturation in Slavonian oak barrels and tonneaux.

Tasting Profile: Translucent garnet with ruby highlights. Fragrant, elegant bouquet featuring classic La Morra perfume—crushed red cherry, dried rose petals, sweet spice, star anise, and subtle leather. Silky and structured on the palate, combining refined, fine-grained tannins with vibrant acidity and a long, harmonious, mineral-driven finish.

Encased in a 1.5L magnum format for optimal aging potential. Decant 1 hour before serving at 16–18°C. Exceptional alongside braised beef in Barolo, wild boar ragù, white truffle risotto, or aged Parmigiano Reggiano.

Vaira Aurelj, Vergne

Brothers Francesco and Giacomo are rewriting Barolo's rules at their Vergne estate. With biodynamic vineyards and minimalist winemaking, they craft wines that buzz with energy. Their "FZ" (Fuori Zona) Nebbiolo challenges expectations, while the rare Controcorrente – made from Nebbiolo rosé – is pure liquid rebellion. The 2020 Barolo Fossati (their first vintage!) already shows cult-worthy depth. For drinkers who crave authenticity with a twist, Vaira Aurelj delivers. Low-intervention, high-expression wines from Barolo's wild west.
