Vaira Aurelj is an artisanal micro-estate located in La Morra, dedicated to crafting pure, unadulterated Piedmontese wines with low intervention, spontaneous wild yeast fermentations, and zero chemical additions.

Controcorrente 2023 ("Against the Current") is the family's vibrant, uninhibited Langhe red. Sourced from estate vineyards in La Morra, this wine embraces a raw, energy-filled expression of Nebbiolo and local native varieties, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged exclusively in neutral vessels without fining, filtration, or added sulfites.

Tasting Profile: Luminous ruby-pomegranate color. Bursting with aromatic intensity, offering fresh sour cherry, red currant, wild thyme, white pepper, and subtle damp earth. Crunchy and electric on the palate, with bright berry acidity, light fine-grained tannins, and an addictive, mouthwatering finish that demands another sip.

Serve slightly cool (12–14°C) in burgundy stemware. An outstanding pairing for charcuterie, wild mushroom pasta, wood-fired pizza, or roasted poultry.

Vaira Aurelj, Vergne

Brothers Francesco and Giacomo are rewriting Barolo's rules at their Vergne estate. With biodynamic vineyards and minimalist winemaking, they craft wines that buzz with energy. Their "FZ" (Fuori Zona) Nebbiolo challenges expectations, while the rare Controcorrente – made from Nebbiolo rosé – is pure liquid rebellion. The 2020 Barolo Fossati (their first vintage!) already shows cult-worthy depth. For drinkers who crave authenticity with a twist, Vaira Aurelj delivers. Low-intervention, high-expression wines from Barolo's wild west.
